As part of HoD for 2023 (8 – 17 September) Beeston Civic Society has organised two local events: a special Walk with an Expert guided walk, led by Professor John Beckett, on 10 September, and an evening Heritage Exhibition Marketplace and Guest Speaker event on 14 September.

What is Heritage Open Days?

Heritage Open Days is England’s largest community led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.

Our Talk Event

We are fortunate to have secured Chris Matthews to give our talk.  After the unexpected death of Elain Harwood, who was due to give our talk and whom Chris knew from the Twentieth Century Society, Chris has kindly stepped in to be our Guest Speaker. Chris will give his talk on the value of twentieth century historic buildings in Nottingham. The talk is called After Elain: Inspirational Nottingham.

Full details will be available on our website: beestoncivicsociety.org.uk/heritage-open-days

Heritage Exhibitors, Creatives + Producers Wanted!

As part of the event, we wish to include exhibitions and stalls by local organisations, groups, producers, and interested parties – perhaps those who’d like to be involved in Heritage Open Days but are not able to host an event themselves.

Involved in creating traditional or heritage products?
Do you have traditional or heritage craftsmanship skills (e.g. pargeting, lime rendering, woodcrafts, lacemaking or weaving)?
Are you an expert in local history, or run an organisation involved in heritage sector?
If any of these sound like you and you would like to exhibit and/or sell your product, please fill in the Exhibitor Response Form on our website to be involved in our event!
