All are welcome to the last plaque unveiling on Beeston Station on the morning of Wednesday 8 October 2014. The unveiling will be carried out by Sir Neil Cossons, former Chairman of English Heritage and a Beeston man. He will be assisted by David Horne, MD of East Midlands Trains and Cllr Stan Heptinstall, MBE and our Mayor. This is plaque number 34.
Arrangements are that we assemble from 11.00am under the awning of the Victoria pub on Dovecote Lane just behind the platform for a prompt start at 11.30am. All the preliminaries will take place under this awning so that we have weather protection and some relief from noise from passing trains. There will be a welcome, followed by a brief explanation from local author Alan Dance about how the station was saved in the 1980s. Our Mayor will follow and then David Horne, MD East Midlands Trains will say a few words. Finally Sir Neil Cossons will say something about his childhood in Beeston and work experience in the 1960s at the Station.
Then we move through the wicket gate from the Victoria on to the Beeston side platform for the unveiling itself. This will be carried out by Sir Neil and David Horne under the eye of Cllr Stan Heptinstall MBE. There will be photographs before moving back to the Victoria for refreshments. All are welcome. It is free and there is no need to book.
We do hope you can attend!
