LOCATION: Station Road (Central) Car Park Station Road Beeston Nottinghamshire
PROPOSAL: Construct purpose built student accommodation (sui generis) and ground floor commercial unit (Class E(g)(i)) with associated access, car parking, landscaping and infrastructure


The above application was brought to Planning Committee on Wednesday 27 July.

Councillors unanimously voted to REFUSE planning permission. Issues such as parking, HMOs, the impact the transient nature of student occupation would have on local area, and the small size of the rooms were all raised. 



Cllr Watts (Chair) summing up, “it’s not the right place for student housing, we need good quality housing for residents. Car parking will be an issue on nearby roads. It is an important consideration that we would have to find 132 residential units if this is a student development.”

Greg Marshall added, “It is an unattractive building for a gateway to Beeston. At the moment, I think it is a step too far.

Beeston Civic Society is grateful to Councillors for taking the right decision. We understand developers, Cassidy Group Ltd, intend to appeal. 

The Society hopes that developers take on board more fully the expectations of the Council and the Beeston community – and consider the feedback provided them by the Society, and others, through the planning process.

Beeston was promised better. Beeston deserve better.
