Stop Press, we’ve received the following list from John Delaney from the Town Centre Planning Committee. This is the council’s own list. We are hoping to publish further ideas from New Deal public meeting, and what the Continuum group have received from Beeston residents in due course.
In the meantime, we invite everyone (and we mean everyone) to review and comment on this post about the council’s list below. The more feedback, the better to get the best for Beeston post tram.
- Replace mock-Victorian benches /bins/ pedestrian signing /bike stands etc, especially in Square area, with stainless steel to match rest of Beeston
- Replace lighting in Square and High Road with stainless steel theme to match Broadgate
- Re-launch leaflets etc
- Social media advertising/press releases
- Stainless steel planters
- Town centre car park signing (highway)
- Town centre wifi (inc 5 years maintenance)
- Shop front improvement grants – esp Chilwell Road
- Enhanced Christmas decorations
- Special events, markets, competitions etc
- Heavy duty gum removal
- External appraisal of Beeston
- Uplighters (flood lights) to Beeston parish church
- Interpretation trail with info panels
- Multi-language focal point “welcome to ..” in main Beeston languages (eg, Chinese)
- Living (green) walls on the pedestrian links to Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s (on their land)
- Uplighters, flood lights, for public trees
- Feature sculptures of well known “Beestonians”
- Remove “Stump” from Square and reinstate hole left behind
- Install big screen at The Square
- Upgrade bandstand electrical supply and install roof
- Replace some grass at Broadgate with artificial grass to facilitate year-round events
- Clean (or repair) the Beeston man statue
